Maykestag Speedtap Universal M16 Rolling Tap With Oil Grooves TiCN

Professional M16 Speedtap Universal thread-forming tap manufactured from HSS-E Co8, featuring oil grooves, a wear-resistant TiCN coating, 6HX tolerance and Form C chamfer geometry. Designed for producing metric ISO internal threads without cutting chips, with excellent suitability across a broad range of steels, stainless steels and aluminium.

The Maykestag Code 4679 Speedtap Universal is a high-performance rolling tap, also known as a thread-forming tap, for producing metric ISO internal threads to DIN 13. Instead of cutting material away to create the thread, its forming geometry displaces suitable workpiece material into the required thread profile. This provides a clean, chip-free threading process and makes the tool particularly valuable in professional production environments where reliable thread quality, process consistency and efficient machining are important.

The M16 version has a standard 2mm metric pitch and is manufactured from cobalt-alloyed HSS-E Co8. Maykestag combines this tough, heat-resistant tool material with a TiCN coating and integral oil grooves to support lubrication at the forming area and reduce friction during the demanding thread-forming process.

What is a rolling or thread-forming tap? A rolling tap forms an internal thread by controlled plastic deformation of the workpiece material rather than by cutting it away. Because there are no conventional cutting chips to remove, the process is essentially chip-free. In suitable formable materials this can provide an excellent thread surface and a reliable production process. Correct pre-hole diameter, lubrication and machining conditions are especially important when thread forming.

Product highlights

  • Speedtap Universal: Maykestag’s high-performance universal thread-forming design for metric ISO internal threads.
  • M16 x 2 thread: Standard M16 metric ISO thread with a 2mm pitch.
  • Chip-free thread production: Forms the thread by material displacement rather than conventional chip-producing cutting.
  • HSS-E Co8 construction: Cobalt-alloyed high-speed steel provides excellent toughness, hot hardness and wear resistance for demanding forming operations.
  • TiCN coating: Hard, wear-resistant coating designed to reduce friction and support dependable tool life.
  • Oil grooves: Help deliver lubricant directly to the forming zone where effective lubrication is particularly important.
  • 6HX tolerance: Manufactured to the specified thread-forming tolerance for controlled internal thread production.
  • Form C chamfer: 2-3 pitch chamfer geometry as specified by Maykestag for the Code 4679 range.
  • Through and blind holes: Maykestag identifies the series for both through-hole and blind-hole applications.
  • DIN 2174: Manufactured to the specified dimensional standard for thread-forming taps.
  • DIN 13 metric ISO threads: Designed for the widely used metric ISO thread system.
  • 60° thread profile: Correct profile angle for ISO metric threads.

Why Choose Maykestag?

Maykestag specialises in precision-manufactured professional cutting and threading tools where controlled geometry, accurate tolerances and carefully selected tool materials are essential. Thread forming is especially demanding because the tool must repeatedly displace the workpiece material while maintaining the required thread profile and dimensional accuracy.

The Code 4679 Speedtap Universal combines HSS-E Co8 tool material, TiCN coating, oil grooves and carefully specified forming geometry in a tool designed for dependable production threading. Its broad Maykestag application rating makes the series an especially versatile choice for workshops and production environments working across steels, stainless steels and aluminium.

Designed for Reliable Chip-Free Thread Production

Thread forming eliminates conventional threading chips because the material is formed rather than cut. This can be particularly valuable in automated production, blind holes and applications where loose chips would complicate the machining process. The Code 4679’s oil grooves assist lubricant access to the forming area, while the TiCN coating helps the working surfaces withstand friction and wear. Used with the correct 14mm pre-hole, suitable lubricant and Maykestag-recommended machining data, the M16 Speedtap Universal is designed to provide controlled, repeatable metric threads and dependable tool performance.
